CareOne and Soles4Souls are partnering for the month of November. Soles4Souls is a nonprofit organization that collects and distributes new and gently used shoes to people in need around the world. Throughout November, each of our locations will serve as a donation drop-off site, collecting new and gently used shoes to support this incredible cause.

Soles4Souls works to transform lives through the power of footwear. They distribute shoes to those who are in need, and for people living in poverty, a pair of shoes can make a life-changing difference. Your donations will directly help individuals take steps toward education, employment, and a brighter future while giving new life to shoes that might otherwise end up in landfills.

Here’s how you can help CareOne and Soles4Souls make a difference this holiday season:

  1. Gather Your Donation: Any style of shoe — sneakers, sandals, boots, dress shoes, etc. — new or gently used are welcome!
  2. Visit Your Local CareOne Community: Drop off your donations at any of our locations. Find the one nearest you with our locator.
  3. Spread the Word: Be sure to let your friends and family know. More shoes mean more positive impact!

CareOne is dedicated to providing compassionate care that extends beyond the communities it serves. Partnerships like this allow us to create lasting ripples of change. Each pair of shoes can make a big difference in someone’s life. Together, we can support Soles4Souls in their mission to fight poverty and provide hope.

Standing Together: Supporting Israel in a Time of Crisis https://www.care-one.com/blog/standing-together-supporting-israel-in-a-time-of-crisis/ Tue, 10 Oct 2023 17:57:02 +0000 https://www.care-one.com/?p=9396 An image of illustrated angel wings inside of a heart impression. Below it reads "Donate Today" as well as the CareOne company logo

The terrorist attacks on Israel on Saturday, October 7 marked the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust. We cannot let this tragic loss of life pass without taking meaningful action. As a proudly Jewish owned and operated health network, CareOne, Ascend, and its partners are joining hands to organize a charter flight this week to transport both reservists and donate to supplies to Israel.

We have compiled a list of urgently needed supplies to support those affected by the ongoing crisis in Israel. We ask our partners and communities to please consider donating any of the following items:

  • Camelbacks (water bags)
  • Headlamps
  • G-Shock Watches
  • Power Banks
  • AA & AAA Batteries
  • Heating Bags
  • Sleeping Bags
  • Duffel Bags
  • Mobile Chargers for Phones
  • Thermal Clothing
  • Softshells
  • Winter Hats
  • Gloves
  • Headlamps
  • Socks
  • Towels
  • Camping Stoves
  • Toothbrushes
  • Toothpaste
  • Deodorant
  • Pads and Tampons
  • Wipes
  • Travel-sized Shampoo/Conditioner/Body Wash
  • Band-Aids
  • Antibiotic Cream
  • Painkillers
  • Hand Sanitizers

Drop-off Locations

For convenience, CareOne has arranged several drop-off locations to donate supplies to Israel, including:

  1. CareOne at Teaneck (544 Teaneck Road, Teaneck, NJ 07666): Please drop off items with the front desk receptionist between 8 AM and 8 PM. If those hours don't work, contact Simeon Ratner at (917)-273-6071 to arrange alternative options for pickup or delivery.
  2. 159 Passaic Avenue, Passaic NJ, 07055. For any questions or concerns, contact Esther Sebbag at (973)-830-0131.
  3. 74 Johnson Place, Woodmere, NY. For any questions or concerns, reach out to Raylie Bodner at (516)-816-7227.

We want to express our deepest gratitude to our partners and community for their empathy, generosity, and unwavering commitment to helping those in crisis.

Let us remember the words of Rabbi Jonathan Sacks: "Sometimes we must interfere. When human lives are endangered, when human dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant. Wherever men or women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must — at the moment — become the center of the universe."

If you have any questions on how to donate supplies to Israel, please email us at info@care-one.com

CareOne Announces Company-Wide Charitable Giving Program, Summer of Sharing https://www.care-one.com/blog/careone-charitable-giving-summer-of-sharing/ Mon, 12 Jun 2023 18:12:28 +0000 https://careone.stage.eks.matchfire.io/?p=8239 Summer of Sharing logo

At the heart of everything we do is our commitment to compassion, community and caring. In addition to caring for your loved ones each and every day, we have always believed in making a positive impact in our communities. We know that by working together, our efforts can create ripples of change.

That is why we are elated to announce the official kickoff of CareOne’s Summer of Sharing. Each of our 57 buildings has selected a local charity or cause they feel passionate about and will spend the entire summer collecting donations to support it.

Our Summer of Sharing initiative enables us to give back to the communities we serve and affect change on a local level. Organizations selected by CareOne facilities include food pantries, animal shelters, mental health foundations, children’s hospitals, Veteran’s Affairs and many more.

While all funds raised will make an impact, this program is about much more than raising money. Our goal is to foster a culture of sharing and community involvement while inspiring others to give back to those in need.

“At CareOne, we truly believe that success lies not only in providing exceptional care to those in need, but also in uplifting those around us,” said CareOne CEO Daniel Straus. “Summer of Sharing is a reflection of our core values. Our responsibility as a healthcare organization extends beyond our facilities’ walls, and this initiative allows us to create lasting, positive change.”

When supporting those in need, everyone’s a winner. But that doesn’t mean we can’t also have a little competitive fun! In the spirit of competition, we’ll keep you posted throughout the summer to see how our fundraising efforts are going and which facilities are most on the move. After Labor Day Weekend, we’ll let you know just how big of an impact we’ve made.

If you’d like to contribute to one of our local causes, you can reach out via live chat on the website for more information.

Three Columbia Healthcare Innovation Founders Earn $50,000 in Award Funds at The Annual Columbia-CareOne Healthcare Innovation Invitational https://www.care-one.com/blog/three-columbia-healthcare-innovation-founders-earn-50000-in-award-funds-at-the-annual-columbia-careone-healthcare-innovation-invitational/ Thu, 04 May 2023 20:14:01 +0000 https://careone.stage.eks.matchfire.io/?p=7259 CareOne donation

CareOne, a leading skilled nursing and senior care provider committed to delivering excellence in care across the continuum, and Columbia University are proud to announce the winners of the Annual Columbia-CareOne Healthcare Innovation Invitational. The Columbia Entrepreneurship team and CareOne guided this year’s cohort of 12 healthcare founders through a three-week process of investor-type pitches.

At the finals of the competition, six teams came to the Columbia Startup Lab to pitch their healthcare solutions to a panel of judges including David Baruch ’13 Columbia College, Assoc. General Council, CareOne; Jeet Raut ’14 Teachers College, co-founder Behold.AI; and Justin Bhandari, SVP Strategy and Special Projects, CareOne.

The following teams won awards:

  • 1st Place, $25,000 winner: QuikReversal, Founder: Asher Varon ’14 Columbia School of General Studies
  • 2nd Place, $15,000 Winner: OphyCare, Founder: Etizaz Shah ’21 Columbia School of International Public Policy
  • 3rd Place, $10,000 Winner: Tango, Founder: Jordan DeTar ’24 Columbia Graduate School of Business

“This year’s group of founders was incredibly competitive and innovative. We were impressed by every single pitch, making it difficult to select our top three,” said David Baruch, Associate General Counsel, Straus Group. “CareOne and the Straus Group sponsor and participate in this competition annually because we believe that the future of healthcare is in the hands of entrepreneurs like Asher, Etizaz, Jordan, and all the other competitors.”

More about the winning teams:

QuikReversal – 1st Place, $25,000 winner

Founder: Asher Varon

To address the opioid overdose crisis with emergency treatment, QuikReversal delivers a self-applied, disposable, intranasal naloxone wearable, that automatically detects opioid overdose and delivers naloxone without the need for intervention from a bystander or first responder.

Letters of support have been obtained from the New York State Office of Addiction Services and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. Maryland State has also granted $90,000 to QuikReversal through its Maryland Industrial Partnerships program. Currently, QuikReversal is pre-revenue and pre-launch. The team is focused on FDA approval through a 505b pathway. They have already raised a total of $230,000 from investors as well as close to $65,000 in awards supported by Columbia University –just like the 2023 Columbia-CareOne Healthcare Innovation Invitational award.

OphyCare – 2nd Place, $15,000 Winner

Founder: Etizaz Shah

OphyCare delivers cloud-based health record management and telehealth infrastructure to organizations serving populations impacted by mass migration, war, and paper & pen record keeping. OphyCare helps these organizations deliver more effective and efficient care to their patients by streamlining health record management and providing telehealth capabilities to patients in their own language. OphyCare is post-launch and is on $1,500,000 sales run-rate for 2023. They’ve raised more than $250,000 in venture funding. Additionally, the team has landed a strategic partnership with a nursing home software company that will lead to an additional 200 facilities. The team launched with their first customer in February 2023 where they will be serving more than 175 doctors, 20 facilities, and more than 12,000 patients annually.

Tango – 3rd Place, $10,000 Winner

Founder: Jordan DeTar

Tango is repositioning couples care as required routine maintenance to proactively solve the problem that nearly every couple faces: failure to effectively communicate. The app provides self-guided programs on common relationship topics via on-demand audio content to help couples strengthen communication and connection. Still in their pre-launch phase, Tango completed initial user testing in the Fall of 2022. The team explored relationship-health pain points, then presented wireframe mockups of their app and took the beta customers through a typical user journey. Leveraging feedback from super-users, the team then iterated and landed on a minimal viable product (MVP).

“Our partnership with CareOne has led to many valuable experiences and beneficial funding for the entrepreneurs involved in the challenge. This year’s Healthcare Finals were the most competitive pitch sessions that I can recall over the last ten years” said, Chris McGarry, Senior Director for Entrepreneurship in the University Office of Alumni and Development at Columbia and moderator for the Healthcare Finals. “The whole cohort was exceptional.”

The CareOne Challenge exists to mobilize creators and innovators in healthcare delivery, patient empowerment, medical devices, EMR management, healthcare for an aging America, medical services, and more.

CareOne and Daniel E. Straus Help Bring Relief to Puerto Rico https://www.care-one.com/blog/careone-helps-bring-relief-to-puerto-rico/ Wed, 11 Oct 2017 00:19:26 +0000 https://careone.stage.eks.matchfire.io/?p=9124 A cardboard box of canned food, water and snacks being exchanged between two people whose arms are only visible.

CareOne, a premier family-owned healthcare company with more than 30 centers in New Jersey, hosted a wildly successful fundraiser for hurricane relief in Puerto Rico on October 19 in New York City.  The star-studded event, aptly titled “Starry Night Masquerade”, was spearheaded by CareOne President and CEO Daniel E. Straus and was in partnership with CareOne’s sister company InnovaCare.

The October-19 charity fundraiser was held at the Skylight Clarkson North in New York and included celebrity guests like NFL players Victor Cruz, Jason Pierre-Paul and many NFL alumni, recording artists Pitbull and JoJo, and models and actresses Danielle Brooks of “Orange is the New Black” and Joan Smalls.

“Starry Night Masquerade” comes in the wake of CareOne’s recent October-11 mission to Puerto Rico with New Jersey healthcare leaders and physicians from RWJBarnabas Health, with the trip was underwritten by CareOne. The company’s Chief Strategy Officer, Tim Hodges, visited hospitals and spoke with physicians and patients on the ground to evaluate how best to address the immediate needs of the island’s medical community.

Following CareOne’s recent trip to Puerto Rico and the October-19 “Starry Night Masquerade”, the company is continuing its relief planning and is in the process of scheduling follow-up trips to Puerto Rico in the coming weeks and months.  In the interim, its on-the-ground team associated with CareOne’s two facilities on the island will continue working to ensure the proper dissemination of supplies to medical facilities, as well as transporting patients in need from Puerto Rico to New Jersey.

NEWARK, NJ – For the Courtright family, the 200 Wishes carnival on Sunday, February 26 at the Prudential Center in Newark was about spreading the message of Make-A-Wish New Jersey and all it is able to accomplish for so many families across the state.

The Caldwell family certainly knows the value. Two of their four children – Matthew and Mitchell – have cystic fibrosis. For Matthew, age 12, that meant a wish was granted to surf in Hawaii. For little Mitchell, age 7, it meant he finally got to see his true hero, Pluto, during a trip to Disney World.

“It is really hard to put in words what Make-A-Wish New Jersey has meant for our family,” said Gregory Courtright, who attended the Sunday event with Mitchell, as well as his two daughters, Makenzie, 15, and Miranda, 9.
The Courtright family showed its appreciation recently, donating the family’s 1968 convertible Corvette to raise money for the charity. “If that doesn’t show how appreciative we are, nothing will,” Courtright said. “I learned how to drive stick on that car.”

Another way the Courtrights showed their support was to tell their story to the gaggle of media who attended Sunday’s event, generously presented by CareOne, a family-owned healthcare company. It was a record-setting day, with $1.3 million generated for Make-A-Wish New Jersey – enough to generate 200 wishes.
The impact of funding 200 wishes from a one-day event is tremendous, as the non-profit is typically able to raise enough money through the year to grant on average 500 wishes. Yesterday’s event included about 30 wish children and their families, who participated in a dizzying number of attractions, from jumping castles, to photos with Darth Vader, to building stuffed animals.

Spearheaded by CEO Daniel E. Straus and Executive Vice President Elizabeth Straus, the family-oriented event included ice skating on the New Jersey Devils’ ice rink, carnival games and prizes, a Build-A-Bear Workshop experience, and special guest appearances by Olympic Medalist Nancy Kerrigan, Corey Schneider of the Devils and Miss New Jersey Brenna Weick.
“I feel like I am the fortunate one here,” said Schneider, the Devils goalie, and a resident of Short Hills. “I am fortunate to be here, lift some spirits and help make their day. Any time you can help make wishes come true, it means a lot.”

Another featured guest at the carnival was  Kerrigan, who met with wish families and led two ice shows. “It is really great to be here,” she said, adding that Care One has done a terrific job create a family event that has been able to raise so much money for Make-A-Wish New Jersey.
Care One is New Jersey’s largest privately-owned post-acute and long-term care provider, and one of the largest privately-owned health care companies in the United States.

Each year, CareOne selects a charitable organization to support, with past initiatives raising more than $5 million in funds for organizations including: Superstorm Sandy relief efforts, Boston’s One Fund, The Valerie Fund Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

“As health care providers, we are committed to improving the quality of life of our patients and their families,” said CareOne CEO Daniel E. Straus. “Partnering with Make-A-Wish New Jersey enables us to extend this commitment to children and families throughout New Jersey.” According to Make-A-Wish New Jersey, wishes impact everyone involved – wish kids, volunteers, donors, sponsors, medical professionals and communities.
“Our entire CareOne team was excited to participate in this monumental fundraising event,” said CareOne Executive Vice President Elizabeth Straus. “This is an incredible opportunity to make wishes come true for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.”

All proceeds raised at the 200 Wishes event are going directly to Make-A-Wish New Jersey to grant wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
“A wish experience has a magical way of unifying people around the powerful mission of bringing hope, strength, and joy to children with life-threatening medical conditions,” said Tom Weatherall, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish New Jersey. “The leadership and staff of CareOne have certainly proven this to be true through their inspiring efforts to help grant us grant wishes through their upcoming 200 Wishes event.”

CareOne Ball Raises $1.7 Million for Breast Cancer Research https://www.care-one.com/blog/careone-ball-raises-1-7-million-for-breast-cancer-research/ Thu, 11 Feb 2016 01:08:29 +0000 https://careone.stage.eks.matchfire.io/?p=9105 Woman in white lab coat with a pink ribbon pin looks through a microscope.

Last night, at the opulent Gustavino’s on the Upper East Side, New Jersey based health-care company CareOne held a star-studded ball raising $1.7 million for breast cancer research.

Titled “The Queen of Hearts Ball & Casino Night,” the event this year was Prohibition-era themed. Attendees were able to throw dice and sip 1920s- style cocktails as they heard from Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), the nation’s largest private funder of breast cancer research, about their innovations in the field of breast cancer treatment. Tickets were priced at $250, with every cent raised going directly to BCRF.

“The Queens of Hearts Ball & Casino Night is one of the most successful fundraising events ever undertaken by an independent group on behalf of BCRF,” said BCRF CEO and President Myra Biblowit in a press release. “CareOne’s dedication is clear.”

Speaking at the event, Ms. Biblowit said that BCRF will be “forever grateful” to Daniel and Elizabeth Straus, who are, respectively, CareOne’s President and Executive Vice President (Elizabeth is also Daniel’s daughter.) “The dollars raised will impact lives for years to come,” she said, describing how the funds will advance discoveries in tumor biology, genetics, prevention and treatment.

In attendance was New York Giants star Jason Pierre Paul, who commended CareOne for their fundraising efforts, saying he was “impressed” by what the raised money for BCRF had already and will now continue to achieve. “It’s all about giving back,” Mr. Pierre Paul said, managing to sound sincere while uttering the exact same language used by every athlete honored at a charity ball ever. “I’m honored to have been a part of this event.”
Steve Weatherford, the beefcake former punter for the Giants, was spotted during the evening, as was retired Met great John Franco.
Ms. Straus dedicated the fundraiser to her grandparents, Gwendolyn and Joseph Straus, whose compassion, she said, provided the bedrock for the importance their family places on philanthropy.

“CareOne’s mission of caring is not just for the thousands of patients its dedicated employees care for daily but also its larger sense of caring as community for each other and for others. Over the last several years, our company has raised over $5,000,000 for philanthropic efforts, including Super Storm Sandy Relief Fund, One Boston Fund and the Valerie Fund,” Mr Staus told the Observer.

“Last night, the company’s mission of caring was validated once again by a sold out event with more than 1,000 attendees coming together to contribute close to $2,000,000 to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation,” he continued. “I am overwhelmed and inspired by the many individuals, including my daughter Elizabeth who made this happen.”

CARVER – Fenway Park Sunday will be the site of a remarkable tribute to a Carver man and his family who are overwhelmed by the kind of support no one can expect.

Dan Grimes, 42, who is battling late stage lung cancer, returned to the hospital early this week and may not attend Sunday as planned but his family will be represented at the benefit to kick off a $1 million fundraising campaign to create a fund to support Dan and other employees affected by cancer.

Both Dan and his younger brother, Andrew, work for HealthBridge Management and CareOne, the companies that are making this all possible. A licensed nursing home administrator, Dan is regional director of operations for the company’s eight Southeastern Massachusetts nursing facilites.

“I’ve never heard of a company doing what CareOne has done,” Andy Grimes said. “It’s beyond anything we could have imagined, how much they are doing to support him.”

Dan was speechless when he learned he would be the first recipient of the new fund, his brother said. He said Dan is very proud that a fund that bears his name will help others.

“There are no words for it,” Andy said. “Our whole family is just blown away.”

The sons of former selectman Jim Grimes and his wife Mary, they are joined in this fight by Dan’s wife, Karen, his high school sweetheart, and their four young children ages 4 to 11. The Grimes family moved to Carver in 1984 when Dan was 12 and Andy was 6.

It’s a bright light at a time when Dan is in pain and in search of the treatment option that will save his life. A non-smoker healthy aside from his cancer, he was diagnosed in March.

Unfortunately, there has been minimal success with the first and second chemotherapy treatments ordered by his doctor, Dr. David Jackman, but they will keep on with different treatment options. A clinical trial may still be an option but has been postponed for medical reasons.

“He’s battling, and we have a lot of hope there are other treatments that will be effective,” Andy said.

Andy is at his brother’s side for all his appointments. He said it’s another benefit of working for CareOne that he’s able to do this.

When CareOne Chairman and CEO Daniel E. Straus learned of Dan’s illness, he launched the fundraising campaign to help Dan and other employees with unexpected expenses so they can focus on their recovery and their families.

“Dan’s story is our story,” Straus said in a statement. “Like all of our employees, he has dedicated his career to helping our skilled nursing care residents and their families. What we do in our profession is care for others, but we also need to take care of our own. We don’t just work in these communities. We also live in these communities and when something like this happens, whether it is one man’s battle with cancer or the ravages of a hurricane in New Jersey, it happens to all of us and we need to stand up as a community.”

CareOne has similarly supported other causes, including raising more than $1 million to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy, donating $250,000 to the One Fund for victims of the Boston Marathon bombing and raising more than $1 million for The Valerie Fund, an organization providing programs and services for children living with cancer and blood disorders.

The Fenway Park fundraiser is expected to attract more than 1,000 participants, many of them colleagues and friends. The event will have a baseball theme throughout and includes food, music, special guest appearances, ballpark tours, raffles, silent auctions and corporate sponsorship donations. Doors open at 4 p.m. and the event runs until 8 p.m.

Throughout the companies efforts are underway to support Dan and future beneficiaries of the fund. Nursing facility operators have been having their own fundraisers for the cause. Locally, businesses in Carver and Plymouth have been raising awareness of the cause and selling Save Dan T-shirts. The Plymouth Pilgrims baseball team is partnering with the #SaveDan fundraiser to raise money for the avid sports fan.

“It’s been an amazing outpouring of support for Dan, his family and his extended family,” Andrew said.

Reveals major support for centers treating New Jersey and New York children with cancer and blood disorders

BERGEN COUNTY, N.J.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–CareOne CEO Daniel E. Straus has announced the company’s fundraising campaign to benefit New Jersey’s largest network of healthcare facilities for children with cancer and blood disorders, donated $10,000 to the group and pledged that the CareOne community will donate 500 toys to the centers’ children by Christmas.
“We want to make certain that no child is without a holiday present”
Announcing the 2014 fundraising campaign for the CareOne community – a community Straus described as the employees, residents, family members of residents and vendors of the 60 CareOne facilities – Straus said: “Our hearts go out to the children and families who depend on the vital services of the Valerie Fund Children’s Centers for Cancer and Blood Disorders, and this is our way of expressing our strong support for the fantastic work of the Valerie Fund. CareOne looks forward to supporting the Valerie Fund centers in 2014.”

Accepting the $10,000 donation in ceremonies Monday, Valerie Fund co-founders Ed and Sue Goldstein said in a statement, “We deeply appreciate the support of the CareOne community –the current donation and the priceless gift of toys for the children at our care centers during the holidays as well as the magnificent fund raising campaign CareOne has set for next year. Those funds will be a big help in supporting the caring, comprehensive, state-of-the-art outpatient health care we provide children in the more than 25,000 patient visits the Valerie Fund hosts each year.”
Straus said the staff, residents and family members of residents in the New Jersey CareOne facilities will be joined by their counterparts in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Virginia CareOne facilities in collecting and donating the 500 toys, which will be delivered to the seven Valerie Fund healthcare centers on Dec. 23 and 24. “We want to make certain that no child is without a holiday present,” said Straus, “and this project has been eagerly embraced by members of the CareOne community.”

He said that while some 2014 plans for support of the Valerie Fund are still being formulated, CareOne does plan a major New Jersey fundraiser gala during Valentine Day’s week, and a significant volunteer effort to support the Valerie Fund’s annual Camp Happy Times – an annual free one-week overnight camp experience for children aged 5-21 who have or have had cancer. Nearly 200 children attend each summer.

The fundraising gala will be held on Feb. 12, 2014 at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, N.J. Plans for the other CareOne fundraising activities will be announced at a later date, Straus said.

The Valerie Funds centers are located at top pediatric hospitals within an hour’s drive of most of New Jersey’s population, providing state-of-the-art medical and emotional care in a happy, upbeat, child-centered atmosphere. The hospitals with which the centers are associated and their locations are Morristown Medical Center, Morristown; Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston; Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Newark; Columbia University Medical Center, New York City; Overlook Medical Center, Summit; Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Voorhees; and Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch.

Those funds will be a big help in supporting the caring, comprehensive, state-of-the-art outpatient health care we provide children in the more than 25,000 patient visits the Valerie Fund hosts each year.” Straus said the staff, residents and family members of residents in the New Jersey CareOne facilities will be joined by their counterparts in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Virginia CareOne facilities in collecting and donating the 500 toys, which will be delivered to the seven Valerie Fund healthcare centers on Dec. 23 and 24. “We want to make certain that no child is without a holiday present,” said Straus, “and this project has been eagerly embraced by members of the CareOne community.” He said that while some 2014 plans for support of the Valerie Fund are still being formulated, CareOne does plan a major New Jersey fundraiser gala during Valentine Day’s week, and a significant volunteer effort to support the Valerie Fund’s annual Camp Happy Times – an annual free one-week overnight camp experience for children aged 5-21 who have or have had cancer. Nearly 200 children attend each summer. The fundraising gala will be held on Feb. 12, 2014 at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, N.J. Plans for the other CareOne fundraising activities will be announced at a later date, Straus said.
